Check out the amazing photography from last year!

It is a requirement for this class to have a digital camera. You will need bring it to class the first week of school. It is strongly recommended that you have a DSLR camera. At the very least, your camera must be able to go into manual mode.  Please email me over the summer if you have any questions on the type of camera that you will need.

Summer Assignments

You will need to take a minimum of 100 photos. These photos should be taken throughout the entire summer (not all in one day). If you do not have access to a digital camera over the summer, you may use a camera phone. Have all of your images saved on a flash drive or sd card and bring it to class on the first day of school. This will count as your first project. The categories listed below are suggestions, not requirements.

  • Traditional Portraits (posed)
  • Candid Portraits (not posed, more ‘in the moment’)
  • Headshots
  • Landscape/Cityscape
  • Action/Motion
  • Night (try some with and without the flash)
  • Daylight
  • Indoor (use natural light)

Try different angles of the same subject • Experiment with horizontals and verticals of the same subject • Are you traveling over the summer? Are you going to any festivals? Take your camera!

I am taking a group of junior and senior Lane Tech art students to Iceland in May 2018. If you are interested in going on the trip and will be a junior or senior, reach out to me! I will send you the info!
